Texas Southern University Recreation Center's Tiger Camp ↗ is a Youth summer day camp for children ages 5 to 14. The program was created in 2013 by Rec Center Director Dr. Iisha Voltz, with assistance from Asst. Director Jeremy Lewis, whom I've worked closely with since.
Tiger Camp (and Texas Southern Rec Center as a whole) plays an integral role in my skills and creative development, in Graphic Design, photography, videography, and as a person. My time working with Texas Southern University Recreation Center's Tiger Camp(us) began at its inception back in 2013. I was selected to be a counselor and quickly earned the title of Lead Counselor. The same year I worked various sports photography gigs based around their Rec Sports programs, including basketball, flag football, and horseback riding. I also took and edited/retouched Rec staff headshots. Along with my counseling duties I took photographs of daily activities, camper headshots, and produced weekly recap videos for everyone to watch.
After hanging up my counselor hat in 2016, I returned in 2021 taking a role of photographer (solely, lol), and have been back yearly to date. Interacting with the children, counselors and parents over the years has been an awesome experience. To see many campers who started as campers stay with us and grow through the years, some now even becoming couselors themselves has been surreal. To make an impact in kids' lives and create lasting memories for us all will stay with me forever, and I'll always be grateful for the opportunity.
Below are a handful of my favorite photos I've taken (out of thousands), I hope you enjoy!
